Reflections from a Student Teacher: 29th Day of Teaching Internship at St. John's Model HSS Nalanchira
As a student teacher on the 29th day of my teaching internship at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School in Nalanchira, I had the opportunity to dive into the exciting world of physics education. The focus of the day was to teach the first law of motion from the chapter "Laws of Motion" to a class of ninth-grade students, and I decided to incorporate the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance the learning experience.
Preparation and Planning
Before the class, I spent a considerable amount of time preparing my lesson plan. I wanted to make sure that the concept of the first law of motion, which states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an external force, was not only understood but also appreciated by my students.
Utilizing ICT as a Teaching Aid
To make the lesson more engaging and interactive, I decided to integrate ICT tools into my teaching. I used multimedia presentations, videos, and animations to illustrate the principles of inertia and how they apply to everyday life. The aim was to make the abstract concept of physics more relatable and accessible to the students. The use of ICT not only captured their attention but also facilitated a deeper understanding of the topic.
Classroom Experience
Entering the classroom filled with eager faces, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. However, as soon as I began my lesson, I was pleasantly surprised by the students' enthusiasm and active participation. They were eager to answer questions, share their insights, and relate the first law of motion to real-life situations.
During the class, I conducted a few simple experiments to demonstrate the concept of inertia. For instance, I used a small ball and asked the students to predict its motion when placed on a table. The students observed and discussed how the ball remained at rest until they applied a force to make it move. Such hands-on activities helped solidify their understanding of the first law of motion.
Support from Concerned Teachers
One of the highlights of the day was receiving positive feedback and guidance from my concerned teachers. Their encouragement and constructive criticism were invaluable in improving my teaching skills. Moreover, I got their signatures on my record works, signifying their approval of my teaching methods and classroom management.
Conclusion
The 29th day of my teaching internship at St. John's Model HSS Nalanchira was a rewarding experience. Teaching the first law of motion using ICT tools allowed me to engage my students and make the subject matter more accessible. It also demonstrated the importance of interactive and practical teaching methods in enhancing the learning experience.
I am grateful for the support and mentorship of my concerned teachers, who have played a pivotal role in my growth as a student teacher. As I continue my journey in the world of education, I look forward to more opportunities to share knowledge, inspire young minds, and refine my teaching skills. Each day brings new challenges and learning experiences, and I am excited to embrace them all.
