Reflecting on My 18th Day of Teaching Internship at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School, Nalanchira
As a student teacher, my journey through the teaching internship program at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School in Nalanchira has been a remarkable learning experience. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities for growth. On my 18th day of teaching, I had the privilege of conducting the first period in a class of 9th-grade students, focusing on the topic of "Acceleration and Equations of Motion." This day allowed me to utilize ICT aids, engage the students in solving mathematical problems, and foster a sense of discipline within the classroom.
Teaching with ICT Aids:
The day began with a sense of anticipation as I prepared to introduce the complex topic of acceleration and equations of motion to a class of enthusiastic 9th graders. To enhance their understanding and make the subject more engaging, I decided to incorporate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) aids into my teaching approach. The use of multimedia presentations, videos, and interactive simulations helped me convey abstract concepts in a visually appealing manner.
The students' reaction to this approach was positive, as they were able to grasp the fundamental principles of acceleration more easily when supported by visual aids. ICT tools not only made the content more accessible but also allowed for a dynamic and interactive learning environment that encouraged active participation.
Mathematical Problem Solving:
To consolidate their understanding of the topic, I included mathematical problem-solving exercises in the lesson. These problems were carefully selected to challenge the students' critical thinking skills and application of the concepts learned. It was heartening to witness the students collaboratively tackling these problems, exchanging ideas, and learning from one another.
Review Questions and Follow-Up Activity:
After the lesson, I distributed review questions that encouraged the students to revisit the key points covered during the class. These questions aimed to reinforce their comprehension and prepare them for future assessments. Additionally, I assigned a follow-up activity that required them to work in groups and design experiments related to acceleration, fostering not only individual learning but also teamwork and creative thinking.
Supporting School Discipline:
As a student teacher, I understand the importance of maintaining discipline in the classroom for effective teaching and learning. Throughout the day, I took it upon myself to support the school's disciplinary policies. I ensured that the students followed classroom rules, such as being punctual, attentive, and respectful to both their peers and me.
By maintaining a consistent and respectful approach to discipline, I aimed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning. This not only supported the school's values but also allowed me to build a positive rapport with the students.
Conclusion:
My 18th day of teaching internship at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School, Nalanchira, was a rewarding experience. It showcased the power of innovative teaching methods, including ICT aids, in making complex subjects more accessible. The inclusion of mathematical problem-solving and review questions further deepened the students' understanding.
Additionally, my commitment to upholding discipline in the classroom contributed to a productive and respectful learning environment. This experience has reinforced my passion for teaching and my dedication to becoming a more effective educator. As I continue my journey as a student teacher, I look forward to more opportunities for growth and learning in this remarkable school.
