My Journey as a Student Teacher: Reflecting on my 10th Day at St. John's Model HSS, Nalanchira

ecoming a student teacher at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School, Nalanchira, has been an enlightening experience. Today, I will share my reflections on my 10th day as a student teacher, focusing on my class 9 physics lesson on capillarity. The day also brought a unique opportunity to support my physics teacher in paper valuation.

The Day Begins: Preparing for the Lesson

As I entered the school premises on my 10th day, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. My task for the day was to teach class 9 students about capillarity in physics. I had meticulously prepared my lesson plan, incorporating interactive teaching aids like multimedia presentations, videos, and diagrams to make the concept more accessible and engaging.

The Classroom Experience: Bridging Theory and Daily Life

When the moment arrived, I stood before the class with enthusiasm. To introduce the concept of capillarity, I started by discussing the definition and significance of capillary action in our daily lives. I emphasized how capillarity affects the rise of water in plants and the working of ink pens. Using ICT aids, I displayed captivating visuals and animations, making it easier for the students to grasp the complex phenomenon.

Relating Theory to Real-Life Examples

One of the key aspects of my lesson plan was to relate the theoretical concepts to real-life examples. I engaged the students by asking questions like, "Have you ever noticed how water rises in a straw or in the fibers of a towel when it touches a spilled liquid?" These relatable examples helped the students connect the dots between the classroom theory and their everyday experiences.

Review Questions and Follow-up Activity

To assess their understanding, I presented review questions that ranged from simple to complex. These questions encouraged active participation and discussion among the students. We also conducted a hands-on experiment where students were able to witness capillary action in action. This not only reinforced their understanding but also sparked curiosity.

Supporting My Physics Teacher in Paper Valuation

After the morning session, I had the opportunity to support my physics teacher in paper valuation. This experience allowed me to gain insight into the assessment process, understand the challenges teachers face when grading, and appreciate the importance of fair evaluation.

Conclusion: A Day of Growth and Learning

My 10th day as a student teacher at St. John's Model HSS, Nalanchira, was filled with valuable experiences. Teaching capillarity using ICT aids and relatable examples was a rewarding experience, and seeing the students engage with the topic was immensely satisfying. Additionally, helping with paper valuation provided a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work that teachers do to ensure quality education.

Each day in this journey brings new challenges and opportunities for growth, and I look forward to continuing to learn and make a positive impact on the students at St. John's Model HSS. It is through experiences like these that I am evolving as an educator and gaining a deeper understanding of the teaching profession.
