A Day in the Life of a Student Teacher: My 14th-Day Teaching Internship Experience at St. John's Model HSS, Nalanchira

As a student teacher, my journey through the teaching internship at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School in Nalanchira has been an enlightening and transformative experience. Each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, and my 14th day at the school was no exception. This day was particularly special as I had the chance to teach Class 9 students about position-time graphs using ICT aids.

The Focus of the Day: Teaching Position-Time Graphs with ICT Aids

The highlight of the day was having my first period with Class 9 students, where I had the privilege to delve into the fascinating world of physics. The topic of the day was "Position-Time Graphs," a fundamental concept in physics that helps students understand the motion of objects. What made this lesson even more exciting was the incorporation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) aids.

The use of ICT aids in teaching has the potential to make complex concepts more accessible and engaging for students. It allows for interactive learning experiences that can enhance comprehension and retention. I prepared a visually appealing presentation with animations and interactive graphs to illustrate the concept of position-time graphs. The students responded with enthusiasm as they watched the graphs change in real-time, reflecting different scenarios of motion.

I encouraged active participation by asking questions, and the students seemed eager to answer and discuss. We explored the various aspects of position-time graphs, from understanding different types of motion to interpreting the slope of the graph in relation to velocity. It was incredibly rewarding to see the students grasp these concepts with the help of technology.

Review Questions and Follow-Up Activity:

After the lesson, I provided review questions and a follow-up activity to reinforce the students' understanding of position-time graphs:

What does a horizontal line on a position-time graph represent?

Explain how you can determine the velocity of an object from its position-time graph.

Draw a position-time graph for an object at rest, moving with constant velocity, and accelerating uniformly.

Imagine you have a position-time graph of an object's motion. How would you determine the distance traveled by the object during a specific time interval?

The follow-up activity involved analyzing real-world scenarios and creating position-time graphs based on given data. This hands-on exercise aimed to deepen their comprehension and analytical skills.

Supporting the School: Library Orientation Programme at Mar Ivanios College

In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I had the opportunity to support the school by accompanying students to Mar Ivanios College for a library orientation programme. This initiative is essential in nurturing students' research and reading skills beyond the classroom. It was a delightful experience to witness their eagerness to explore the college library and discover the vast world of knowledge it holds.

In conclusion, my 14th-day experience as a student teacher at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School was filled with excitement, engagement, and the joy of imparting knowledge. Using ICT aids to teach position-time graphs made the lesson memorable for both the students and me. I look forward to more such enriching experiences as I continue my journey as a student teacher, helping to shape the future minds of our society.
