My Journey as a Student Teacher: 36th Day of Teaching Practice at St. Mary's HSS Pattom

As a student teacher, my journey has been filled with valuable experiences, and today, I want to share a significant day during my teaching practice at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School in Pattom. The 36th day of my teaching practice was particularly special as I had the opportunity to conduct remedial teaching for class 9 physics, focusing on the topic of potential difference. It was a day that not only challenged my teaching skills but also taught me the importance of maintaining discipline in the school campus.

Preparing for the Day:

Before the day began, I spent hours meticulously planning my lesson. Potential difference is a fundamental concept in physics, and I wanted to ensure that my students grasped the concept thoroughly. I created engaging materials, such as visual aids and practical demonstrations, to make the topic more accessible. I knew that remedial teaching required a different approach, as it aimed to address the specific needs of students who were struggling with the subject.

Entering the Classroom:

As I stepped into the classroom, a sense of nervous excitement washed over me. The students looked expectant, some with apprehension, others with curiosity. I began by revising the basics of potential difference, ensuring that every student had a strong foundation before delving into more complex concepts. I encouraged questions and discussions, making it a collaborative learning experience.

Challenges and Triumphs:

During the class, I encountered several challenges. Some students were still struggling to grasp the basics, while others had advanced questions that required in-depth explanations. Adapting to the diverse learning needs of the students was a challenge, but it also showcased the importance of flexibility in teaching. I drew upon various teaching strategies to bridge the gaps in understanding, and it was immensely rewarding to see the students' faces light up when they finally grasped the concept.

Maintaining Discipline:

In addition to teaching, I had another responsibility on this day—maintaining discipline in the school campus. It was crucial to ensure that students conducted themselves in an orderly manner, not just within the classroom but also in the school premises. I patrolled the campus during breaks and ensured that students adhered to the school rules. This experience taught me the importance of being a role model and a source of guidance for the students.

Completing Records and Seeking Approval:

After the class, I had to complete my records, documenting the lesson plan, student participation, and outcomes achieved during the remedial teaching session. I then approached the Vice Principal for her signature as a sign of approval and validation of my work. This step was crucial in formalizing my teaching practice and gaining valuable feedback.

Conclusion:

The 36th day of my teaching practice at St. Mary's HSS Pattom was a significant milestone in my journey as a student teacher. It allowed me to not only deepen my understanding of the subject but also develop my teaching skills and the ability to adapt to diverse student needs. Moreover, it highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline in a school environment. As I continue on my path to becoming a teacher, I carry the lessons learned from this day with me, knowing that they will shape my future as an educator
