My Teaching Internship Journey: Day 27 at St. John's Model HSS Nalanchira

As a student teacher at St. John's Model Higher Secondary School in Nalanchira, my teaching internship has been a remarkable journey filled with learning, growth, and countless memorable experiences. On my 27th day in this dynamic environment, I had the privilege of engaging with Class 9 students, focusing on mathematical problems related to equations of motion and delivering a scientific talk on the fascinating topic of design thinking. This day was a testament to the diverse and enriching experiences that teaching offers.

Teaching Equations of Motion

The morning started with a sense of anticipation as I prepared to teach mathematical problems from the chapter on equations of motion to Class 9 students. Equations of motion are an integral part of the physics curriculum, and I knew the importance of simplifying complex concepts for the students to grasp.

I began the lesson with a brief recap of the fundamental concepts and equations related to motion. I used real-world examples and visual aids to make the content relatable and engaging. It was inspiring to witness the students' eagerness to learn and their active participation in solving mathematical problems. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it motivated me to facilitate a productive learning environment.

One of the key challenges in teaching equations of motion is breaking down complex formulas into understandable steps. I employed various teaching strategies, including step-by-step problem-solving and interactive discussions, to ensure that every student comprehended the material. Seeing the students' faces light up as they successfully solved problems was a rewarding experience that highlighted the impact of effective teaching.

Delivering a Scientific Talk on Design Thinking

In the afternoon, I had the opportunity to engage with the same group of students but in a different context. This time, I was tasked with delivering a scientific talk on the topic of design thinking. Design thinking is a problem-solving approach that emphasizes empathy, creativity, and innovation. It was a topic I was passionate about, and I hoped to inspire the students to think critically and creatively.

I started the talk by introducing the concept of design thinking and its relevance in various fields, from product design to problem-solving in everyday life. I shared real-world examples of how design thinking had led to groundbreaking innovations. To make the topic more relatable, I encouraged students to think about common problems they faced and how they could apply design thinking principles to find innovative solutions.

The students' engagement during the talk was impressive. They asked thought-provoking questions and shared their own ideas about applying design thinking to their lives. It was evident that they were not just passive recipients of information but active participants in the learning process.

Reflections

My 27th day as a student teacher at St. John's Model HSS Nalanchira was a day filled with meaningful interactions and valuable lessons. Teaching equations of motion highlighted the importance of breaking down complex concepts and fostering a supportive learning environment. Delivering a scientific talk on design thinking showcased the power of inspiring students to think creatively and critically.

Throughout this journey, I have learned that teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about igniting curiosity, nurturing creativity, and empowering students to become lifelong learners. As I look forward to the remaining days of my internship, I am excited to continue learning from both my students and the experienced educators at this remarkable institution. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, and I am grateful for the chance to make a positive impact on the lives of these young learners.
