Journey of a Student Teacher: Navigating Teaching Practice at St. Mary's HSS, Pattom 2nd day

As a student teacher, embarking on the path of teaching practice can be both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Each day presents a new opportunity to learn, grow, and inspire. Today, I want to share my experience of the second day of my teaching practice at St. Mary's Higher Secondary School in Pattom, where I had the privilege of teaching a Physics class to ninth graders.

The Start of the Day: Nerves and Excitement

The day began with a mixture of nerves and excitement coursing through my veins. The anticipation of teaching a subject as complex as Physics to a group of young minds was both daunting and thrilling. Armed with my lesson plan and a deep passion for the subject, I entered the classroom with a sense of purpose.

The Lesson Focus: Ohm's Law and Its Derivatives

My assigned task for the day was to introduce the students to the fascinating world of electricity and electronics. I was scheduled to teach them about Ohm's Law and its derivatives. Explaining the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance was a crucial part of their foundational understanding of Physics.

I started the lesson with a brief introduction to the history of Ohm's Law and its significance in the world of science and technology. I used real-world examples to illustrate the concepts, making them relatable to the students' everyday experiences. It was essential for me to ensure that the class was engaged and comprehending the subject matter.

The Triangular Box Equation: A Practical Approach

To make the lesson more interactive and hands-on, I introduced the students to the "triangular box equation" related to Ohm's Law. This simple yet powerful tool helped them visualize and solve problems involving voltage, current, and resistance. Using colorful cards and markers, we created a giant triangular box on the blackboard, filling in the known values and calculating the unknowns. The excitement in the room was palpable as students actively participated in this activity.

Supporting Tasks: Distributing Mid-Day Meals

Teaching practice isn't solely about what happens in the classroom; it extends beyond those walls. As a student teacher, I also had the opportunity to engage in supporting tasks that contribute to the overall school environment. On this particular day, I assisted in distributing mid-day meals to the students.

This experience allowed me to connect with the students on a different level. It was heartening to see their smiles as they received their meals, and it reminded me of the importance of holistic education, which goes beyond academics to address students' basic needs and well-being.

Reflecting on the Day's Experience

As the day concluded, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey so far. Teaching practice is a unique blend of theory and practice, where every day brings new challenges and rewards. While imparting knowledge to the students, I also find myself learning valuable lessons about patience, adaptability, and the art of effective communication.

The second day of my teaching practice at St. Mary's HSS, Pattom, will always hold a special place in my heart. It was a day filled with not just the transmission of knowledge but also the creation of memorable learning experiences. I look forward to the days ahead, eager to continue making a positive impact on the young minds entrusted to my care.
